Press Release
04 November 2023
At least 128 people have been killed and over 150 others injured after a 6.4 Richter scale magnitude earthquake struck with the epicentre around Khalanga (district headquarters of Jajarkot), Nalagad VDC, Barekot VDC and Aathbiskot VDC located west of Rukum at 11.47 pm (NPT).

As the earthquake struck at midnight while most of the people were sleeping and as most of the houses were constructed with clay joins, most of the houses were destroyed while the residents were sleeping. As the search and rescue continue in the affected area, it is estimated that the number of deaths could increase. As the residences have been destroyed, people are living in open grounds, and hospitals are filled with the injured.

MIT Group Foundation will conduct a detailed analysis of the damage in the affected areas. The foundation will engage in short- and long-term rescue and relief operations that will be effective, sustainable, and address the local priorities.

MIT Group Foundation expresses its sincerest condolences to all the lives lost in this natural disaster and prays for the expedited recovery of all who are injured. In this time of tragedy, we also request all for help through coordination, collaboration and teamwork.
