MIT Group Foundation Spearheads First Nepal Green Hydrogen Summit to Revolutionise Clean Energy and Economic Growth

The MIT Group Foundation is at the forefront of tackling critical global issues by hosting the inaugural Nepal Green Hydrogen Summit in Kathmandu. As a leader in the Non-Resident Nepali (NRN) movement and president of the MIT Group Foundation, Shesh Ghale has played a key role in organising this groundbreaking event, underscoring the importance of green hydrogen technology in fighting climate change and boosting socio-economic development in Nepal.

The summit is a joint effort with global and local partners including the Global NRN Foundation, Ministry of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, and Kathmandu University. It aims to explore the enormous potential of green hydrogen in sectors like transport, heavy industry, and agriculture. This technology promises to produce energy that only emits water, providing a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels and an opportunity to significantly cut greenhouse gas emissions.

In response to the escalating energy crisis and the ongoing effects of global warming, our foundation recognised the need to investigate innovative solutions. Research shows that green hydrogen can mitigate the threats posed by climate change, which is considered to be a greater public health risk than the recent Covid-19 pandemic. Additionally, our commitment to this technology is part of a broader vision to propel Nepal towards prosperity by 2030 through sustainable and innovative energy solutions.

While some might view green hydrogen as a distant dream for Nepal, the MIT Group Foundation sees it as a viable and immediate opportunity. Nepal's unique position, with abundant water resources and a growing surplus of hydroelectric power, presents an ideal setting for developing competitive green hydrogen production. By leveraging our hydroelectric capabilities and international collaboration, Nepal can potentially lead in this emerging industry.

The foundation advocates for strategic government policies and the establishment of a dedicated green hydrogen authority to ensure effective implementation and oversight. Our involvement goes beyond mere advocacy; we are actively investing in green hydrogen as a crucial part of our commitment to environmental and social governance. The foundation and the wider Nepali diaspora are poised to lead these initiatives, transforming Nepal into a leader in clean energy.

As we continue to promote green hydrogen, the MIT Group Foundation remains committed to realising a sustainable future for Nepal, proving that the country can be a powerhouse in clean energy production. Our vision is clear: to harness innovative technologies and collaborative efforts to build a thriving, green economy
